I've hated the Yankees ever since I can remember. I've been to Cooperstown and Wrigley Field and Candlestick. I *loved* baseball. Even though there have been many things about baseball (usually related to the business part of baseball, not the game part) that disgusted me, I still kept coming back and paying attention. When Raffy Palmiero tested positive, something snapped in me. This season, even though my second favorite team won the World Series, I watched a grand total of about 4 innings of baseball. All season. This might be the first season since we moved to Richmond that I didn't go to a Braves game. I'm done. I've been slapped in the face enough times. I don't care if they fix it, and by the way, Bud Selig is NOT the man who can clean up baseball. He's not strong enough. This all makes me sad, that a game I loved for all those years is no longer something I can even think about without getting a sick feeling in my stomach. So I guess my letter to baseball would read something like this:

Dear Baseball:
Thanks for the memories. See ya.
Love,
WayneWayne Connershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06698320111454882089noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23015033.post-48791772427078790002007-12-15T09:29:00.000-05:002007-12-15T09:29:00.000-05:00And it always turns into politics on this blog, yo...And it always turns into politics on this blog, you evil hate-monger you!

:-)Andrew Hammhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08714127938846605400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23015033.post-48480654908877070222007-12-14T16:56:00.000-05:002007-12-14T16:56:00.000-05:00"To fail as a man is infinitely better than to suc..."To fail as a man is infinitely better than to succeed as a sham." So VERY true, to which I would only amend "man" to "HUman".

Wherever we lay the blame, we all know doping of any kind is cheating, and the cheaters' accomplishments are virtually meaningless. As a boy, I recall watching in something akin to a state of shock as the East German women swimmers racked up medal after medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics. These women had shoulders as broad as an NFL linebacker of that era, and we all KNEW that behind the iron curtain, the "win at any cost" mentality was creating something very evil, very wrong, and that the fix was in.

Going even further back, the same mindset drove the Nazis to play with human genetics, using German men and often unwilling women to procreate what they hoped would become a super human, thereby proving the superiority of the Aryan race.

Now, I'm not calling Barry Bonds, Bud Selig and others implicated in this shameless scandal Communists or Nazis. But for America's game...AMERICA'S GAME, people...to use a rationale (win games, make money) on par with those despicable enemies of our past, can ANY of us enjoin the horror by putting down our dollars on Major League Baseball until this is cleaned up ONCE AND FOR ALL? Isn't Andrew correct...is the blood NOT on our hands by supporting these charlatans?

OUT, damned spot.Frank Creasyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15302762603707230845noreply@blogger.com
